King & Wood Mallesons has announced the general counsel of a major mining company will join its energy and resources practice.

Scott Langford, formerly general counsel and company secretary of Newcrest Mining, will move into KWM’s Melbourne office as a partner next month.

Newcrest Mining is one of the world’s largest gold and copper mine operators.

Mr Langford was also a partner and co-head of the energy and resources practice at Allens.

KWM managing partner for projects and real estate Scott Gardiner welcomed the high-profile appointment.

“Scott is a globally recognised resources and mining specialist and his extensive experience and sector knowledge will further enhance our offering to clients in this area,” Mr Gardiner said.

Earlier this year, KWM's energy team scored another coup when DLA Piper’s head of mining, Rob Edel, joined its Perth office.
