ACT finally gets new DPP

THE ACT Government has finally announced the appointment of a new Director of Public Prosecutions, a position that has been vacant since December last year.

Taking up the position is Jon White, who currently leads the prosecution branch in the head office of the Commonwealth DPP. White replaces Richard Refshauge, who was appointed as a judge of the ACT Supreme Court last December.

The appointment has been so long coming that White may have a challenge ahead of him, with the ABC reporting last week that six of the department’s 26 prosecutors had recently resigned.
