I am currently working within Kelly & Co’s corporate and commercial division, but with a particular focus on mineral and resources companies. Our work is divided into general corporate issues, such as capital raising and ASX Listing Rule-compliance, and resources specific issues, such as environmental advice, joint ventures and farm-in agreements. I never really thought long-term about my post-university plans, and I just sort of fell into this area. Working in a law firm, however, is certainly not how I’d envisaged. I had imagined working ridiculous hours with less than accommodating people, but the reality has been quite the opposite. The workload has been perfectly reasonable and the support has been exemplary. My own personal development has also been managed well. I haven’t been completely thrown into the deep end as I’d feared, but have been given the opportunity to increase my exposure to more advanced and technical work from week to week.
