MORE THAN 300 participants flocked to Thredbo for the annual Lawyers Ski & Snowboard Race at Thredbo this month.
Former slalom world champion and Olympic medallist Zali Steggall, now at the Sydney Bar, was first across the line in the ski race, beating 130 competitors with a pair of sub-20-second times.
Josh Knuckey from Clayton Utz was the fastest male skier, less than 2 seconds behind Steggall.
The Clayton Utz A team won the team event and championship trophy with a combined team time of 129.59 seconds. A composite team from the Sydney Bar came in second while the Clayton Utz B team did the firm proud again, coming a close third, only one second behind.
Twenty-five competitors took part in the snowboard race. David Bushby from Mallesons Stephen Jaques posted the fastest time, finishing in 60.21 seconds for his combined two runs, while Lindsay Kerr from Deacons was the fastest woman, finishing in a combined time of 71.82 seconds.
Attendees said the traditional Friday night cocktail party in the infamous Keller Bar was a hit. But it was capped by the gala dinner on the Saturday evening with lots of laughs as highlights from the race were shown on the big screen.
This year, a charity auction of a Sharp LCD widescreen TV was incentive for Matthew Curll of McCabe Terrill to pledge $4,500 to Aussie Helpers who assist people in rural communities suffering from depression.
One lucky door prize winner walked away with a ski holiday for two people to Steamboat, Colorado donated by Travelplan. Other prizes included three LCD widescreen TVs donated by Sharp; a summer holiday and 2008 season lift pass donated by Kosciusko Thredbo Ski Resort; skis and snowboards from Rossignol; goggles from Bolle; and prizes from Dolman Legal Search & Recruitment, Printhie Wines, Aurora Bar and Lounge and BlueTongue Brewery.
