The Australian office of Baker & McKenzie has confirmed with Lawyers Weekly that, unlike their North American counterparts, they will not be reducing salaries of staff.
The North American office of Baker & McKenzie recently laid off 38 attorneys and 86 paralegals and said in a statement that, in select instances, salaries had been reduced to preserve jobs.
Lawyers Weekly approached the Australian arm of Baker & McKenzie to see whether the same strategy would be employed.
A spokesperson for the firm said: "Each Baker & McKenzie office makes decisions about salaries in line with the local market. We are not embarking on a salary reduction strategy in our Australian offices."
