SA court ordered to axe 53 jobs

Posted May 04 2009, 03:06 AM by Lawyers Weekly

The public sector is the latest to be hit by the job cuts sweeping legal services, as the South Australian Courts Administration Authority confirmed with Lawyers Weekly on Monday that it has been ordered to cut 53 full-time jobs over the next three years.

According to a spokesperson for the authority, the Department of Treasury and Finance has advised that 39 full-time positions must be cut by 2010. A further 7 full-time positions will be shed in 2010, and another 7 cuts are planned for 2011-2012.

There will also be a reduction in staff appointed for each judge and magistrate.

It is estimated that the cuts will save the SA government $3.7 million. As of June 30, 2007 the SA Court had 720 full-time employees.

Good story laura macintyre. Really great to see lawyers weekly breaking news. It's been a while, but is this a sign of things to come? You've got competition, but reporting like this puts you in league!
