King & Wood Mallesons has become the first tenant in a new Collins Street development in Melbourne.

Expected to be completed in 2019, the new Cbus project at 447 Collins Street will be a mixed-use development worth more than $1.25 billion, according to a release from Cbus Property.

KWM will lease 8,300 square metres across levels 23 to 27, equating to approximately 20 per cent of the building’s floor space.

KWM partner in charge, Melbourne, Jonathan Oldham said the firm was confident the space would be a "great fit".

"As a firm, we are committed to providing a great place to work for our people as well as an excellent experience for our clients," he said.

"The global architectural statement this building makes, as well as its contribution to the next generation of workplaces, is aligned with our vision and strategy."

Cbus Property and leasing agent Colliers confirmed they were in talks with other legal and financial services companies to lease the development.
