G8 Education has announced it has hired a new general counsel and company secretary.

The education provider has revealed that Sarah Zeljko has replaced Gary Carroll as general counsel and company secretary, effective yesterday – 16 January 2017.

In addition to her new role at G8 Education, Ms Zeljko is employed at Powerlink Queensland, where she remains as a director within the company's board.

She also holds the position of a non-executive director for Waterways Plus' board.

Prior to these roles, Ms Zeljko was general counsel and company secretary for Wiggins Island Coal Terminal Pty Ltd, group general counsel and company secretary for Cement Australia and a manger of governance, risk and compliance for Seqwater.

She has also held the titles of legal and governance portfolio manager for Queensland Urban Utilities, senior associate for Brisbane City Council, executive director for Sustainable Innovations, legal counsel for Repower Systems SE, commercial lawyer for Agrichem and commercial lawyer for Roche Mining.

G8 Education managing director Gary Carroll said the company was delighted that Ms Zeljko had come on board.

“We are excited to be welcoming Sarah to the group,” Mr Carroll said.

“She brings a wealth of experience in legal, company secretarial and executive leadership roles across both public and private sectors.”

Correction: The original version of this article incorrectly stated Ms Zeljko was a director of Powerlink Queensland and was a non-executive director for Waterways Plus, implying that she no longer holds these positions. This article has now been amended to reflect that Ms Zeljko remains on the board for both companies, in addition to her new role at G8 Education.
