DLA Piper takes tax man

DLA Piper takes tax man

DLA Piper has announced the hire of Todd Martin Beutler as a partner in the firm’s Hong Kong office.

With more than 15 years’ experience with firms in Hong Kong, Singapore and the US, Beutler represents high-net-worth private clients with multinational interests as well as US, Asian and European companies with global operations. In addition to counselling and planning, Beutler regularly represents clients in tax controversy matters and fiduciary litigation.

Beutler’s international private client practice focuses on tax, trust, estate and business succession planning for high-net-worth individuals and families, and their companies, foundations and family offices. He has experience implementing trust, foundation and company structures to optimise a family's international tax position, providing for succession planning and asset protection, as well as meeting charitable and other personal goals. He has advised families and companies throughout the region with respect to pre-IPOs, US inbound and outbound investments and other trust and company structures designed to protect and grow their wealth.

Daniel Chan, Piper’s head of tax for Asia, commented: "Wealth management and private clients are a growth area in the region and key to servicing the needs of family-owned companies in Asia. The addition of Todd has added significant strength to our US tax and trust capabilities in Asia and will enable us to further integrate with our already strong tax team in the US and globally."

DLA Piper has more than 50 tax lawyers based in Asia.
