TurksLegal has announced an all-female 2012 promotions line-up, with Fiona Hanlon being made partner in the financial services group.

Four lawyers were promoted to senior associates and former Bartier Perry lawyer Georgina McSpadden joined the firm as special counsel.

Hanlon has spent a large part of her career with the firm as one half of a job share.

“Fiona Hanlon is a leading authority on life insurance risk products.  In addition, she has had significant commercial experience in financial services, including investment products, deposit bonds and financial planning advice,” said managing partner Peter Turk.

Melissa Godfrey’s promotion to senior associate acknowledges her valued position in the team. She is expecting her first child and will be taking maternity leave shortly.

“Equally, Georgina McSpadden’s appointment as special counsel is an important appointment at this critical time. She brings a unique legal understanding of workplace injury management from both the employee and employer perspective. Her knowledge and experience will play an important role in ensuring our clients successfully implement the challenging and far-reaching workers’ compensation reforms,” said Turk.

TurksLegal has also promoted Stephanie Wigan (employers liability), Fiona Reynolds (corporate & commercial) and Priya Fernandopulle (general insurance) to senior associate positions.

The firm’s partnership is now 25 per cent female. More than 60 per cent of its senior associates are also female.

“We didn’t start the promotion process with the sole objective of promoting women only. Quite the opposite. We are a fast-growing firm and we need people who are extremely good at what they do and who are committed to the culture and values of the firm,” said Turk.
