Corrs Chambers Westgarth has hired a new litigation expert in Melbourne.

DAVID Chiappetta has joined Corrs Chambers Westgarth as a special counsel in its litigation group in Melbourne.

Chiappetta joins from the San Francisco office of Bingham McCutchen LLP, where he was partner, and the Silicon Valley office of Perkins Coie LLP, where he recently obtained a US$ 711.2 million judgement on behalf of Facebook, Inc. against Sanford Wallace, the infamous King of Spam, who was accused of illegally clogging the world's inboxes with billions of illegal emails using hijacked computer networks.

Chiappetta's litigation practice covers commercial disputes with a focus on competition law, consumer protection claims, contract disputes and class actions.

He also advises on competition law matters, and has acted for clients before government enforcement agencies in relation to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and investigations.

The appointment reinforces Corrs' commitment to maintaining a market-leading national litigation practice and further strengthens Corrs' capability in the Melbourne legal market, the firm said.
