Piper Alderman, a 55 partner law firm, has appointed a new national managing partner to its ranks.

PIPER Alderman, a 55 partner law firm, has appointed a new national managing partner to its ranks.

The firm has appointed Tony Phelps as its new leading man, a move that coincides with the tenth anniversary of the opening of the firm’s Melbourne office.

Phelps replaces Gordon Grieve, who has held the position for the past four years.

Phelps himself has been with Piper Alderman since the mid 1980s. He has lead the firm’s dispute resolution division for four years and has been the deputy managing partner for the past 18 months.

A commercial litigation lawyer, Phelps has specialist skills in insurance indemnity and defamation law and extensive experience in large-scale litigation.

Outgoing managing partner Grieve tipped his hat to the firm’s new managing partner. “It’s an exciting time for the firm, having just announced 13 promotions and recruited a new wave of graduate talent.

“I am sure [Phelps] will successfully manage the continued development of Piper Alderman’s people and the growth of our practice. He is a great lawyer who truly understands client needs and expectations and is an exceptional leader, respected by partners, staff and clients alike”.
