Law firm DLA Phillips Fox has made a raft of new partner appointments in the new year.

LAW firm DLA Phillips Fox has made a raft of new partner appointments in the new year.

The firm has named six new partners, including two external hires, two new special counsel and three new senior associates, in addition to two other external partner hires made late last year.

Internal promotions to partner include Samantha Kelly, Gowri Kangeson and David Randazzo in the litigation and dispute resolution practice - based in Sydney, Melbourne and Melbourne respectively - and Hugo Thistlewood in the finance and projects practice, based in Sydney.

The firm also hired two partners from rival firms in Melbourne. Bill Glover, who joins from Freehills, joins the finance and projects practice group and James Newnham, who joins from BDO, joins the corporate tax practice.

Newly promoted special counsel includes Cynthia Sica and Kirin Mathews were made special counsel and Michael Clarke, Lisa Ranford and Gavan Mackenzie were promoted as senior associates.

These latest appointments follow two external partner appointments made in late 2010. Stephen Webb joined the finance and projects practice group in Brisbane and David Nancarrow joined the finance and projects practice group in Perth. Both joined from DLA Piper, the global alliance partner of DLA Phillips Fox.

Tony Holland, chief executive of DLA Phillips Fox, said he was delighted to announce this latest round of partner appointments and promotions.

"This is an endorsement of our ability to attract and retain talent. We are delighted to welcome our latest high quality lateral hires and we are also very proud of our ability to grow and promote internal talent.

"These appointments will further strengthen our leading insurance practice and enable us to continue to build our corporate and finance practices,” he said.
