Blanchard’s most recent role was that of international general counsel for Billabong International, which has faced tumultuous times lately as it has been the subject of a number of takeover bids.
The rejection of a takeover bid for Billabong earlier this year left the iconic Aussie brand’s founder Gordon Merchant facing a vote at the AGM that could have removed him from the company’s board.
In his new role, Blanchard will oversee 11 employees in the legal and compliance department at the Wyndham Corporate Centre on the Gold Coast. The department is responsible for ensuring that all areas of the business are complying with the legislation governing their field.
Blanchard has more than 20 years’ experience in the legal field, having spent time working in private practice and academia before making the move in-house.
