Workplace partner takes seat on Sparkes Board

Sparke Helmore has appointed workplace partner Carlie Holt to its national board.

Holt (pictured) replaces insurance partner Ben Dube, whose term as a board member had expired.

The appointment took effect on 1 January 2014.

The board currently has eight members, including Holt. The other members are: Sparkes’ chairman John Coorey, managing partner Jesse Webb, banking & finance partner Ben Burney, corporate partner Mark Hickey, insurance partner Matthew Pokarier and non-executive directors Robyn Chalmers and Gary Flowers.

Holt joined Sparkes in 2002 from Minter Ellison, and was promoted to partner in 2011.

Her expertise lies in work, health and safety matters and she has been involved in several coronial inquests and WorkCover prosecutions.

Based in Sydney, Holt once described herself to Lawyers Weekly as “a mildly-obsessed fan of the Sydney Swans”.

Holt’s appointment coincides with the promotion of M&A lawyer Daniel Atkin and property lawyer Wayne Kaplan to the firm’s partnership.

Sparkes also lost a partner this month – Michelle Segaert, who was a partner in the firm’s corporate group in Sydney for less than two years, has defected to Squire Sanders.

Sparke Helmore has 60 partners and more than 300 lawyers across its national offices.
