Boutique takes two large law lawyers

Two-office firm Russell Kennedy has poached a senior associate from Clayton Utz and a lawyer from HWL Ebsworth for its new Canberra office.

Workplace relations lawyer Andrew Klein (pictured) has left Clutz to become a senior counsel at Russell Kennedy’s new Canberra office, which opened its doors in December. He is joined by ex-HWL property and development lawyer Bianca Scarlett, who will take the title of associate.

Prior to his most recent role at Clutz, Klein was a senior associate at DLA Piper. He has also held a number of in-house roles based in Canberra, including at Centrelink and other Commonwealth departments and agencies.

Scarlett has worked in private practice and in-house, where she advised private and public ASX-listed property developers on the acquisition, disposal and development of residential broad-acre estate communities and mixed-use sites.

The appointments follow a string of recent hires by the firm, which has its other office in Melbourne.

Two principals are among six government, planning and environment lawyers poached by Russell Kennedy from Melbourne firm Garland Hawthorn Brahe this month (3 February).
