Baker steps up a Geer

Thomson Geer’s newest partner is a senior associate from Baker & McKenzie’s corporate team.

Gaynor Tracey (pictured) has joined Thomson Geer in Sydney. The new firm launched in March following the merger of mid-tier firms Thomsons Lawyers and Herbert Geer.

Tracey specialises in M&A with a focus on private equity transactions.

Chief executive partner Adrian Tembel said Tracey’s appointment strengthens the firm’s mid-cap-focused private equity team.

“We have worked against Gaynor and rate her skills and like her style, she will fit in well here,” he said.

In February, Bakers poached Melbourne-based banking & finance partner Martin Irwin from Herbert Geer just prior to the merger with Thomsons.

Thomsons also lost partners in the months leading up to its merger with Herbert Geer, including dispute resolution specialist Craig Powell and property and projects partner Ron Eames.
