National firm Henry Davis York has elected a new chairman of partners.

Senior partner Simon McSweeney will take on the role and replace Philip Crawford, who held the role for five years.

Mr McSweeney is a 20-year veteran of the firm who specialises in corporate finance transactions and restructuring.

Managing partner Michael Greene said Mr McSweeney was a “recognised veteran in his area of law”.

“He is also a person known for supporting, advising and guiding his colleagues to the best of his ability,” Mr Greene added.

"His election is clear evidence that our partners strongly believe he will continue the great work that Philip had undertaken with such focus and commitment."

Henry Davis York has announced plans to expand in the past 12 months, with a Canberra office slated for coming months to complement its existing Brisbane and Sydney presences.
