National promotes family law co-head in Victoria

A lawyer has returned to Victoria from Queensland to jointly lead a national firm’s family law practice group.

Slater and Gordon has announced the promotion of Mona Emera as co-head of its Victorian family law team.

The appointment sees the Victorian lawyer return to her home state after more than two years in Queensland, where she developed Slater and Gordon’s family law practice in Brisbane.

Ms Emera, who has specialised in family law for more than a decade, says she is driven to make the legal process easier for clients.

“The greatest thing for me is being able to alleviate some of the pressure for families going through separation and allowing them to move forward as soon as possible,” she said.

“I am looking forward to doing some great things in the family law space and building on the success of the team to date to get the best possible outcomes for our clients.”

Slater and Gordon general manager, practice group Luke Short said Ms Emera’s hard work and dedication has put her in good stead for her new role.

“Mona is a wonderful role model and mentor to the younger members of her team and is devoted to developing her skill set both as a lawyer and a manager,” Mr Short said.

“She is passionate about making the legal process easier to navigate for everyday people, provides clear and sensible advice and enjoys negotiating practical solutions so that her clients can move forward with their lives.”

Slater and Gordon recently responded to news that the firm suffered a $1 billion annual loss after tax in the last financial year. Group managing director Andrew Grech said in a statement that despite overall results reflecting a “very tough, challenging and disappointing year”, the firm’s Australian business remained strong.
