Baker & McKenzie has appointed a Sydney-based partner to the position of global chairman of its global healthcare group.

Ben McLaughlin (pictured), who has been the Asia-Pacific chair of Baker & McKenzie’s healthcare group until now, will take over from London-based Jane Hobson as global chair of the group.

Mr McLaughlin has over 25 years' experience in advising leading healthcare companies on mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets.

In his new role he will lead a global team of more than 500 lawyers including molecular biology, biotechnology, pharmacology, nursing and bioethics experts, as well as former life sciences professionals who apply their expertise to help clients overcome legal and business challenges.

Mr McLaughlin has a particular interest in health technology, having invented the Baker & McKenzie Global Healthcare MapApp, a mobile application that enables clients to access over 4,000 pages of legal summaries.

He also recently launched Baker & McKenzie's Healthtech Report: Powering The Future Of Healthcare In Asia Pacific.

“I am delighted to welcome Ben to this significant role as the head of our healthcare group,” said Paul Rawlinson, chairman of Baker & McKenzie.

“His extensive expertise in leading teams through many high-profile deals will be a great asset to our firm. I'd also like to thank Jane for helping to grow the group during her highly successful tenure.”
