DLA PHILLIPS Fox has snapped up trade practices law and competition policy expert, Geoff Taperell.

Taperell, who joins the firm’s Sydney office as a partner, was part of the Competition Policy Review Committee (The Hilmer Committee) whose report to the Federal Government in 1993 formed the basis of the Australia’s current competition policy.

He has more than 30 years’ experience in legal practice advising public and private organisations on trade practices, competition policy, industrial regulation, compliance and education, administrative law and commercial law generally.

He also co-authored the text book Trade Practices and Consumer Protection, and has authored numerous articles and papers on trade practices and competition law and policy.

The firm’s corporate practice group head, David Morris, said that he was delighted that Taperell has joined the team.

“Geoff’s appointment is a direct response to the increasing needs of our rapidly growing corporate client base,” Morris said. “Geoff is one of Australia’s leading competition lawyers and his expertise and depth and breadth of experience greatly enhances our ability to service our clients across Australia.”
