TIM MCDONALD, previously a senior advisor to Joe Hockey, the former federal Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, has been appointed as a partner at Sparke Helmore.

McDonald, who has also previously held the role of workplace relations director for multi-industry employer group, Employers First, will be joining Sparkes’ workplace relations team in Sydney.

McDonald has been the lead employer advocate in most major test cases affecting employers in New South Wales over the past decade. These have encompassed issues of enterprise bargaining, awards, penalty rates, part-time work, discrimination, wage fixing, termination of employment, industrial disputes and union rights.

This latest appointment follows a period of growth in the firm’s workplace practice nationally, with senior associate, Jeremy Cousins, and lawyer, Sasha Roberts, having recently joined the team in Melbourne.
