SYDNEY FIRM Addisons has boosted its partnership with the appointment of dispute resolution specialist Philip Stern, who brought with him senior associate Nicole Tyson, solicitor Camille Simon and various support staff.

Managing partner David Blackburn said that the new appointments reflect the growth Addisons has experienced over the last two years, in view of competing with some of its larger rivals.

“Addisons is becoming known as a compelling alternative to the large law firm and our approach continues to attract high calibre legal professionals who want to be a part of an effective and accessible team,” he said.

“[Stern] is recognised by the profession and by the marketplace as one of the best lawyers in his field and will further enrich Addisons’ ability to provide expert legal counsel and a fresh perspective to our expanding client base.”

Stern has over 25 years’ experience in commercial litigation and complex insolvency, recovery projects, trade practices, property and revenue litigation. He has acted in a number of high profile matters, including for the administrators of the Patricks group of companies, the secured creditor of the National Textiles Group, the insider trading trial of Simon Hannes and for Hambros Bank in defence of significant litigation brought by the liquidator of the Duke Group Limited.

“I was attracted to Addisons because of the highly skilled and experienced team of lawyers with very strong corporate practices,” Stern said.

“I believe my capabilities will enhance the existing strong and impressive skills base and the move will bring great benefits to the combined client base.”

New senior associate Tyson specialises in insolvency and commercial litigation and dispute resolution. She has acted for many insolvency practitioners in Sydney, in an advisory and litigious capacity, as well as creditors and directors, having also been involved in large scale and complex matters in the Supreme and Federal Courts.
