Corrs Chambers Westgarth has appointed a philosophy fellow and theologian to its board.
Rufus Black, currently the master of Ormond College and a principal fellow in the department of philosophy at the University of Melbourne and chair of the board of Teach for Australia, has been installed as the board's second external director, effective October 2010.
Prior to becoming master of Ormond College, the ethicist, theologian and strategic advisor worked at McKinsey & Company for nine years where he was partner.
His strategic work has included a report for the Secretary of Defence and Chief of the Defence Force on improving governance and accountability; the development of corporate strategies for professional services firms; and creating a reform agenda to improve the performance of a commercial legal system.
"Rufus' deep knowledge of cultural change programs and expertise in ethical and public policy will be an asset to our business," said Corrs partner and board chairman, John Kelly. "We are very pleased to have been able to attract him to our board. His knowledge and expertise adds an external point of view of the highest calibre."
Black joins former secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Dr. Peter Shergold AC, who was appointed as an external director in June 2009.
