The former head of infrastructure at Ashurst has left the firm to join King & Wood Mallesons as a partner.
Sydney-based partner Chris Mitchell had been with Ashurst for more than 11 years. In that time he acted for a range of public and private sector clients on major transport infrastructure projects, public-private partnership projects, large-scale residential developments and urban redevelopment programs.

Mitchell will work with KWM Australia managing partner of projects and real estate, Scott Gardiner, and national head of real estate, Stuart Dixon-Smith, to develop the firm’s real estate and infrastructure practice in Australia.
Mitchell is the third lateral partner hire for KWM in 2014, following the appointments of energy & resources partner Shaun McRobert from Norton Rose Fulbright and tax partner Michael Perez from Allens, who both joined the firm in January.
KWM has also dropped a number of high-profile partners this year.
In February, KWM lost two energy & resources partners: Paul Lingard, who defected to Clifford Chance, and Daniel Kirk, whojoined Lavan Legal’s corporate services practice in Perth.
The firm is also preparing for the departure of financial services partner Michelle Levy and three other lawyers who are leaving the firm in March or April to join Allens, Lawyers Weekly exclusively revealed last month.
