Niemann has experience providing legal advice to government, owners, contractors and financiers in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, China, Indonesia and Mongolia.

He began his legal career at Allens and was a partner for seven years, starting at McCullough Robertson on 1 November.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the firm as it continues to cement its position in Queensland,” said Niemann.

“This is a great chance for me to build on my experience and offer a fresh perspective to existing clients.

“Being an independent firm, McCullough Robertson will give me the opportunity to have more hands-on ‘on the ground’ involvement with my clients and deliver a more intimate service,” he said.

Niemann has significant experience in the public-private partnership field. He advised on QIC’s divestment of Queensland Motorways, the Western Australia Department of Main Roads’ major rail project and Rio Tinto’s Simandou and Oyu Tolgoi projects.

McCullough Robertson managing partner Guy Humble commented on the appointment, saying, “Niemann brings to the team a unique set of skills and experience, which coupled with our already 27 member-strong construction team allows the firm to offer the best possible service to our clients.”

Another construction partner, Adam Wallwork, formerly at King & Wood Mallesons, joined McCullough Robertson’s Sydney office in August.

The firm’s Brisbane office saw three high-profile departures in June when three McCullough Robertson corporate partners left to start their own boutique practices.
