Katherine Lorenz commenced as CEO of the Victorian Bar in November 2018. The Victorian Bar is an independent association of specialist advocates – more than 2000 barristers - proud of its heritage, but at the same time modern, accessible and committed to the principles of diversity and inclusion.

Recognising the value of building on its long-standing traditions through innovation, flexibility and embracing new ideas, the Victorian Bar is leading the nation in many areas. It is a strong community of barristers who maintain the highest professional and ethical standards, continuing to thrive in an increasingly dynamic legal landscape.

Katherine is responsible for the Bar’s financial management and governance, the implementation of the Bar’s strategic plan and building strong stakeholder relationships across legal bodies, regulators, the courts, government and media. She has significant commercial sector experience in complex commercial litigation matters; regulation; commercial advisory; strategy and enterprise-wide strategic execution; governance; and, compliance and risk.

Katherine’s previous role was Executive Director, Corporate Services and Governance, Chief Legal Officer at Monash Health. Monash Health employs more than 17,000 staff to care for 1.344 million Victorians.

Prior to joining Monash Health, Katherine was the Executive Director of Legal & Information Services at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne.

Prior to joining The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne in 2012, Katherine was Special Counsel for the Australian Wheat Board, now Agrium Asia Pacific Limited. A Special Counsel for Clayton Utz – one of Australia’s preeminent commercial law firms – Katherine was also Solicitor and Senior Associate (commercial litigation) with Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons).
