Deal Significance: In recent times a number of foreign-owned companies have been purchasing Australian sugar assets. This transaction involves an Australian sugar company purchasing the assets of another Australian sugar company, meaning that the Mackay and Mossman sugar businesses will remain Australian owned. There has been widespread support for this transaction in the sugar industry, particularly from cane growers. McCullough Robertson has acted for Mackay Sugar Limited for a number of years. The transaction is due to complete in June 2012.
