The deal will facilitate the roll-out of NBN Co's planned 12Mbps wireless network to Australian premises that won't be covered by the national fibre rollout.

No other Australian law firms advised on the deal.

The rollout of NBN Co's superfast fixed-wireless broadband network, covering Australians in rural and regional areas, is expected to be completed by 2015, with the first services to be available from the middle of 2012.

Led by Allens' partner Arasaratnam and special counsel John Dieckmann, the Allens team worked closely with NBN Co's internal legal team, which is led by senior legal counsel Adrian Fung.

Arasaratnam said Allens was delighted to have advised NBN Co on a transaction of such complexity and national significance.

Dieckmann said that the transaction will facilitate the efficient delivery of LTE-based broadband services to remote communities.

"It represents an important step in the deployment of the National Broadband Network," he said.
