Prison operating contract extended

Four firms have advised on the renegotiation of G4S Correctional Services’ operating contract at Port Phillip Prison.

Firms: Allens (G4S Correctional Services (Australia) Pty Ltd); Manik Meah (G4S); Clayton Utz (State of Victoria); Gadens (Forensicare)

Deal: G4S Correctional Services (Australia) Pty Ltd has renegotiated and extended its operating contract at the Port Phillip Prison.

Value: $3.11 billion

Key players: The Allens team comprised partner David Donnelly (pictured); Paul Telford (senior associate); Siu-Mei Lim (lawyer); and Patrick Easton (lawyer).

Deal significance: The new contract will commence from 10 September 2017 and run for up to 20 years. It represents a $3.11 billion nominal investment over the life of the contract by the State of Victoria ($1.83 billion in net present terms).

Mr Donnelly said: “The firm was proud to have advised G4S on this important transaction.”

The Port Phillip Prison is a maximum security facility with a capacity of 1,087 beds.
