Deal significance: Global investment management company Henderson Group plc and American investment firm Janus Capital Group Inc have completed a merger of equals to become Janus Henderson Global Investors plc.

Following the merger, Janus Henderson Global Investors plc will be worth US$6 billion (AU$7.9 billion), with assets under management of over US$320 billion (AU$424 billion).

The cross-border deal, which was completed on 3 October, spanned England and Wales, the US and Australia. The new firm will have about 2,300 employees at 29 locations worldwide.

Janus Henderson Global Investors plc will keep its ASX listing and list on the New York Stock Exchange, but will cancel its listing on the London Stock Exchange.

“This is an important strategic transaction for our client Henderson, which sees great value in the combination of dominant stakes in complementary markets,” said Alex Ding, lead partner for Lander & Rogers.

“Janus brings a strong platform in the US and Japanese markets, which is complemented by Henderson's strength in the UK and European markets.”
