Suggestions that life on the NSW Central Coast can be a bit backward are a thing of the past.

Last month, local authorities put their foot down on citizens going through retrograde motions by banning the practice of walking backwards.

Hundreds of people from Woy Woy, adopted home town of famed comedian Spike Milligan, had planned to pay tribute to their late local hero by conducting an appropriately-directed parade in honour of the 1956 performance of ’Walking Backwards for Christmas‘.

However, with public liability risks at the forefront of concerns, the idea was put on the backburner.

Fortunately organisers of the week-long event, which kicks off tomorrow (4 October 2003), were not backwards in coming forwards with a fitting reply to the wet blankets at city hall. They will now walk normally, but wear their clothes back to front.

Love’s battlefield drawn up

A pair of Hong Kong lovers could find themselves in more trouble than is usually the case if they cheat or bore one another with idle chitchat, the China Daily reports.

The couple, 26-year-old Li Jun and girlfriend Zhou Xuemei, 22, have entered a love contact complete with penalty clauses for bad behaviour.

Drawn up by lawyers, the contract stipulates 15 conditions including how the pair will date, what they will do on a date, how expenses are to be split and what secrets should be kept.

Each carries a financial penalty for breach, which, for all intents and purposes, is a fair-ish reflection of Australia’s family law.
