Italian men have been pretending to be gay in order to avoid doing military service for their country. Bogus “gay” men around the country are being taken into custody, and several arrests have already been made.

Gays are not allowed to serve in the army in Italy, and now the government may reconsider its discriminatory selection process. Police said their suspicions were aroused after a military doctor made an official complaint that more than 150 men from Burggrafenamt and Vinschgauhad in South Tyrol had claimed to be homosexual.

Men are exempt if they can get a medical certificate from their local GP confirming their sexual orientation. It seems like an odd thing to be diagnosed for at your local GP, but there it is.
