Taking the meaning of "being on the run" to the extremes, a car thief has been nabbed in the Northern Territory after driving 2,500 kilometres from the scene of the crime - near Port Hedland in Western Australia.

Suffering a tyre blow out on the Stuart Highway, which caused the car to roll and crash, still didn't halt the 26-year-old thief, who apparently refused medical aid at the crash site before hitching a ride 25 kilometres further down the road, according to reports from ABC Online.

By the time police finally caught up with him, they had to chase the suspect on foot for further two kilometers through the bushland before being able to arrest him. He was later charged with driving without a licence and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. The suspect was also believed to have fled a service station without paying for petrol on his six-day jaunt.

The 'road warrior' escapade leads Folklaw to suspect there may be a growing resurgence of Mad Max fans in the Top End. Warning: be very afraid if you start hearing the dulcet tones of Tina Turner echoing through the desert.
