Poor old Courtney Love: just when she thought she could get out there and call someone a "drug-pushing prostitute" with a violent streak, the person she said it about - on Twitter - goes and sues her.

And even though Love's lawyer is adamant that Love - a rock singer and widow of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain - was merely expressing her opinion, fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir is, surprisingly, quite upset about Love's tirade of tweets against her and is suing for defamation.

TIME reports that in March 2009, Love - who was apparently miffed about the fact that Simorangkir asked that she be paid for thousands of dollars worth of clothing worn by Love - tweeted out her frustrations.

Love accused the designer of stealing from her and said she was a "drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery who lost custody of her own child and capitalised on Love's fame."

Love's lawyer, James Janowitz, said Love didn't actually do anything wrong: "We don't believe there's any defamation, and even if there were defamatory statements, there was no damage," he said.

And, in a dramatic style we could only expect from an incident involving the oft-scandalous Love, her lawyers have arranged for a medical expert to testify that Love was not feeling "subjectively malicious" at the time of the tweet, and therefore there is no justification for the law suit.

The trial is set to begin on 18 January this year.
