A law student doing a two-week work experience stint at European law firm SJ Berwin has been given a real taste of what life is like as a lawyer.
As RollonFriday reports, while it's arguably a little more interesting than being asked to photocopy a 400-page document or get the 15-plus coffee round, the student got a little more experience than she expected when she was "asked" by a burned-out associate to "stay late" - in other words, to pull an all-nighter. The fresh-faced and super-keen student agreed and watched the sun come up from the firm's office.
SJ Berwin reportedly admitted that the "direct request" was wrong and that it wasn't the first time that a work experience student had worked into the early hours.
In a statement, a firm spokesperson said that "vacation scheme students" were "sometimes invited to take part in work such as deal completions and trial preparation which can run into the night and we are keen to offer them the opportunity to observe and help with some of the more exciting parts of the job".
