It's all about you..
This role will suit an experienced In-House Commercial Lawyer who enjoys working outside of the traditional law firm setting!  If you're able to provide strategic legal advice to senior level stakeholders, within a structured/ regulatory environment, across a broad range of corporate, government & commercial legal matters then this may tick all your boxes!

About our client...
Our client is a government statutory authority and they are now seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Commercial Lawyer within their Corporate Services Branch. 

About this role...
Based in Melbourne, this role reports into a Director and sits within the Legal team which provides strategic legal advice to Executive, senior Managers and staff.  The purpose of this role is to provide practical and strategic advice on legal issues, such as privacy, contracts, complaints, internal workplace relations, administrative law.  Some specific duties & responsibilities will be around the following aspects:-
  • Providing legal advice on various areas of corporate, government, workplace relations or commercial law matters including, but not limited to administrative law, intellectual property, privacy, governance and risk management;
  • Assist in the assessment of requests for information, including requests under the Freedom of Information Act and by regulatory bodies;
  • Manage issues around collection, management, use and disclosure of personal information under the Privacy Act;
  • Lead in the review, drafting of contracts, policies, procedures, forms, and other legal documents;
  • Management of  litigation and lead/contribute to cross-organisational projects; 
  • Risk Management eg. assisting with the application of probity policies & procedures; conducting investigations & reviewing any complaints; maintaining systems that support the risk frameworks
  • Leadership within the team, including developing, coaching and mentoring staff.
Ideal candidates...
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be a qualified Lawyer, (envisage around 5 years pae) ideally with some prior experience as an In-House Lawyer and able to provide legal advice across a range of issues as outlined above together with:-
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Proven problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and resilience;
  • The role requires a disciplined approach, with exceptional written and verbal communications skills; organisational, team-building and time-management skills with the ability to provide leadership & support to other team members.
