About our client...
Our client is a well established & successful company, operating in the Timber & Forrestry industry in Victoria providing responsible management of timber plantations with strong ethos around regional communities, environment and sustainability. They are now seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Corporate Counsel, based in their Melbourne Head office but also be involved/visit their broader regional offices/operations. 

About this role...
Based in Melbourne, reporting directly to their Chief Financial Officer you'll enjoy having autonomy whilst working collaboratively with other senior staff & colleagues.   The purpose of this role is to provide advice, input & guidance, negotiate arrangements and draft documents responding to a range of issues that arise in the course of operating the business involving a broad range of commercial, property, environment, OH&S, compliance & regulatory matters.

Some specific duties & responsibilities will be around the following aspects:
  • Providing legal advice on various areas of law, including, but not limited to, commercial contracts (eg. supply/acquisition of goods and services from contractors/suppliers), property, occupational health & safety, and environmental issues.
  • Assist in the review, drafting and negotiation of contracts based on procurement policies, best practices and case law.
  • Provide legal and strategic advice to internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Assist staff in compliance with legal & regulatory requirements, policies & frameworks by assisting in the development.
Ideal candidates...
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be a qualified Lawyer, with prior practising experience gained in a Corporate setting:-
  • Commercial law and ideally the other areas of law including contract management, property, occupational health & safety as outlined;
  • Proven problem-solving skills with strong 'client service' approach and ability to build professional rapport;
  • Excellent attention to detail with exceptional written and verbal communications skills;
  • Able to work autonomously and meet competing priorities with a flexible attitude and prudent time management.
