About our client... Our client is a well established & successful company, operating in the Timber & Forrestry industry in Victoria providing responsible management of timber plantations with strong ethos around regional communities, environment and sustainability. They are now seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Corporate Counsel, based in their Melbourne Head office but also be involved/visit their broader regional offices/operations.
About this role... Based in Melbourne, reporting directly to their Chief Financial Officer you'll enjoy having autonomy whilst working collaboratively with other senior staff & colleagues. The purpose of this role is to provide advice, input & guidance, negotiate arrangements and draft documents responding to a range of issues that arise in the course of operating the business involving a broad range of commercial, property, environment, OH&S, compliance & regulatory matters.
Some specific duties & responsibilities will be around the following aspects:
Providing legal advice on various areas of law, including, but not limited to, commercial contracts (eg. supply/acquisition of goods and services from contractors/suppliers), property, occupational health & safety, and environmental issues.
Assist in the review, drafting and negotiation of contracts based on procurement policies, best practices and case law.
Provide legal and strategic advice to internal clients and stakeholders.
Assist staff in compliance with legal & regulatory requirements, policies & frameworks by assisting in the development.
Ideal candidates... It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be a qualified Lawyer, with prior practising experience gained in a Corporate setting:-
Commercial law and ideally the other areas of law including contract management, property, occupational health & safety as outlined;
Proven problem-solving skills with strong 'client service' approach and ability to build professional rapport;
Excellent attention to detail with exceptional written and verbal communications skills;
Able to workautonomously and meet competing priorities with a flexible attitude and prudent time management.
