The Role:

We are one of Australia’s leading costing organisations and have an opportunity for a Costs Lawyer/Consultant to join our team.

What we are offering:

$90K - $120K (dependent on costing experience)

Flexible work arrangements (such as variable hours, working from home) will be considered.

Working with one of Australia’s leading costs specialists and forward-thinking leader of the legal profession

Work in a close-knit team of costs lawyers in one of Australia’s oldest and leading costing organisations based in Melbourne acting for legal practices to resolve their entitlement to legal costs

Job details:

Assess reasonableness of legal practices’ legal costs (particularly personal injury law firms) for recovery on inter partes basis and solicitor-own client basis. Negotiate and resolve such costs using alternative dispute methods and/or appear as advocate in Victorian Supreme Court Costs Court.

Manage client relationships, including responding to client demands and queries in an efficient and timely manner

Enjoy both variety and autonomy assuming responsibility for ensuring client management runs smoothly

Provide general legal costs advice to clients

Analyse and report on client legal practices’ legal costs, including preparation of itemised bills of costs

Develop initiatives to improve client legal practices’ ability to manage costs recovery and legal spend


Our Requirements:

Excellent emotional intelligence, in particular, the ability to work co-operatively in a small team and possess excellent relationship management skills

Strong technical skills in costs law mandatory

Strong IT technical skills mandatory

Strong personal injury experience preferred not mandatory


Current Australian Practising Certificate preferred but not mandatory
