Legal Industrial Officer
  • Advice and resolution of Legal issues in an industrial organisation for and on behalf of its membership
  • Attend to Union Membership concerns or enquiries on a day to day basis
  • Attend to Union Organisers and Delegate matters
  • Drafting and dealing with correspondence to employers, employer associations, relevant agencies like WorkSafe and Vic Roads
  • Preparation of relevant applications and legal documents/forms for the Fair Work Commission, Magistrates Court, Federal Circuit Court and other jurisdictions like VCAT, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission and AATRes
  • Obtaining instructions and drafting witness statements
  • Responding to employer applications and disputes
  • Preparing for and appearing on behalf of the union at the Fair Work Commission conferences and arbitrations as Advocate
  • Briefing and instructing counsel when required
  • Providing legal and industrial advice
  • Assisting with EBA negotiations and log of claims
  • Reviewing EBAs against the Fair Work Act, Regulations, BOOT test, relevant Awards and NES
  • Preparing and attending to Protected Action Ballots and Liasing with the AEC, VEC and other authorities
  • Reviewing and preparing all necessary forms and documents for the approval of enterprise agreements by the Fair Work Commission
  • Legal and industrial research
  • Attending to media enquiries
  • Preparing updates and articles for the TWU Journal
  • Preparing submissions for relevant State and Federal Government inquiries, including presenting orally those submissions where required
  • Other tasks as directed by the Branch Secretary.

 

Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Law

Experience

  • Minimum 4-6 years previous experience in a similar role/industry

Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Organised and able to meet deadlines
