Maddison Harrington

Lawyer
Gilchrist Connell

Maddison is a Lawyer in Gilchrist Connell’s Employment Practices Liability team and acts for both insurers and self-insured clients, primarily under Employment Practices Liability policies. Maddison has acted for employers in numerous unfair dismissals, general protections applications, as well as advising clients on their response to and defence of sexual harassment and discrimination claims.
Prior to joining Gilchrist Connell in early 2021, Maddison spent two years working as a Junior Legal Counsel at Griffith University advising and representing the University in employment disputes in the Fair Work Commission, Queensland Industrial Magistrates Court and the Queensland Human Rights Commission.
In 2020, Maddison was recognised in the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland’s Inspo List for "Inspirational Women in Law" on International Women's Day for her continued advocacy for LGBT lawyers. She was also recognised with an Out for Australia 30 Under 30 award in 2019. She is a passionate advocate for diversity, inclusion and acceptance in the workplace, especially for LGBT lawyers. She is a strong believer in bringing your whole self to work every day, and not “hiding” yourself away.
Maddison is a regular public speaker and panellist and has spoken at various legal and non-legal events about her experiences in the workplace as a young, openly LGBT lawyer, as well as her personal journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
Outside of work, Maddison is an elected member on the Queensland Law Society’s inaugural Future Leaders Committee and sits on the national executive of Out for Australia, Australia’s largest not-for-profit organisation for young LGBT professionals.
