Deacons sets up distressed sales unit
Law firm Deacons is planning on establishing a new specialist practice in Western Australia to deal with the rising demand for distressed property sales services. Lee Verios, senior partner at the firm, said the move has been triggered by the global financial crisis, The West Australian reports.
Bakers advises on purchase of Adelaide hotel
In the first major Australian hotel transaction for 2009, Baker & McKenzie has advised Bangkok-based TCC Hotel Group on the purchase of the Hyatt Regency Adelaide from the Grand Hotel Group for $75 million. Partner Caroline Ho led the transactions, and said the deal highlights the ongoing demand for quality Australian hotel property assets from overseas investors.
Anniversary charity dinner for Parramatta firm
The western-Sydney firm Coleman & Greig, better known by Australia’s media as the firm that has steered away from the traditional partnership model, has raised $5,200 for the Salvation Army Parramatta. The money was raised in a celebration dinner to mark the firm’s principal Paul Lucas’ 40 year anniversary in legal practice.
