New Sydney firm launches?

A new Sydney law firm? The New Lawyer has the facts.

A Sydney law firm has ditched its former branding as "NOT Lawyers" and turned to a more solemn and accurate name.

Despite reports that a new corporate and commercial law firm has launched in Sydney, The New Lawyer can confirm O'Neill Partners Commercial Lawyers is in fact a rebranded NOT Lawyers, an acronym of its actual name Nash O'Neill Tomko Lawyers.

The "restructured firm" opened its doors under the new name this month, in the same location, the firm told The New Lawyer.

There have been some changes, however. While the firm's managing partner Michael O'Neill has taken up the position of senior partner and chairman, Simon Gallant, one of three senior partners at the firm, has left.

Meanwhile, David Evans, the third senior partner, stays on at the restructured firm.

While the physical location stays the same, the firm's phone, fax and ABN have changed, according to The New Lawyer sources. The firm has also kept all its staff.

The renaming was an opportunity for the firm to promote its broader corporate and corporate litigation offering. It wanted to steer its branding away from the corporate insolvency work for which it has traditionally been known.
