Sydney Law School graduate Andreas Heger has been awarded the 2010 Rhodes Australia-At-Large Scholarship, making him the school's 11th Rhodes Scholar in the last decade.

Heger, who graduated from his Bachelor of Laws in 2008, is currently working for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in Canberra. He has also previously volunteered with the NSW Disability Discrimination Legal Centre, the NSW Public Defenders Office and the Aboriginal Legal Service.

In addition, Heger has been heavily involved in adaptive rowing, holding a scholarship with the ACT Academy of Sport during 2008-09, and he also trains in athletics.

Heger, who is legally blind, hopes to continue with his sport at Oxford and represent Australia in the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

At Oxford, Heger will enroll in a Bachelor of Civil Laws and a Masters in Philosophy in law, focusing on aspects of anti-discrimination law and positive obligations.
