JOHN CARRINGTON has been appointed as John Atkin’s successor as Blake Dawson’s managing partner.

Carrington was the firm’s deputy managing partner and has been at Blakes since 1985, working across the firm’s Sydney, Perth and Melbourne offices.

He spent six years as the Perth office’s managing partner, where he was involved in the development of the firm’s resources, energy, land access, oil and gas and construction practices.

More recently he led initiatives to restructure the firm’s resources and energy, financial services, tax and litigation practices. He also played a key role in developing aspects of the firm’s remuneration structure and in restructuring the firm’s operations.

Carrington said that his immediate priorities will include developing a strategy to retain and attract high quality talent to the firm, and to further build the firms resources, energy and infrastructure practice groups.

“I am extremely ambitious for the firm and excited by the challenges ahead,” he said.

Atkin, Carrington’s predecessor, announced his retirement from the partnership in July after six years as managing partner.
