Swaab Attorneys Senior Associate, Naomi Messenger has combined her past life in the arts with her current career path in Intellectual Property law.
Her new book, Business Structures and Governance: A Practical Guide for the Arts, was launched in May at Swaab Attorneys offices by the Hon. Dr Geoff Gallop, a Professor at the University of Sydney and former WA Premier (2001-2006).
Messenger had a wealth of practical experience to draw on while researching and writing the book, having previously worked in theatre and music promotion.
The handbook contains information about business structures frequently used by artists and arts organisations in Australia — including partnerships, co-operatives, unincorporated and incorporated associations, and companies. The guide is intended to assist artists to decide on the most suitable business structure, and provides information about start-ups and ongoing legal requirements.
