Mobile phone technology has been released that captures billable time details from mobile phone calls and automatically integrates it into a law firm's practice management system.
Australian software company Stratatel Limited has developed softlog.mobile. It enables lawyers who are out of the office to capture billable units from inbound and outbound calls, which is then updated in the law firm's billing system.
Softlog.mobile's chief executive, Matt Parry, said market research found that there was increasing concern that existing technologies did not capture all the specific billing, client or case information required to ensure all billable time was recorded and accurately allocated.
"The research also found that very often information captured on mobile phones was not then fully integrated into the organisation's back office system and cost-recovery processes," Parry said.
"With more and more professionals using mobile phones to stay in contact with clients - irrespective of whether they are in the office, the car, at home or even at the local kids' football match - this breakthrough could not have come at a better time."
The application can be installed on BlackBerrys and Nokia handsets but is not yet iPhone compatible.
