The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) has announced today that it will extend it pro bono bushfire legal service into 2010, following a contribution from the legal sector that has included 580 legal practitioners volunteering their time.

Known as Bushfire Legal Help (BLH), the service was launched following the Black Saturday bushfires earlier this year. "We understand that people will have a continuing need for legal advice beyond this year and into next year, so we are pleased that we can continue to provide it free of charge," said Kerry O'Shea, BLH spokesperson.
The service has already produced a free phone line available for bushfire victims seeking legal advice, as well as a free online legal handbook.
BLH said it has received 2600 calls since it phone service was established in February - while the online legal service has seen 4200 site visits since its launch in March.
