FREEHILLS’ INTERNATIONAL managing partner, John Curtis, has been appointed as the new head of the firm’s Melbourne office.

Curtis, who is also the head of the firm’s projects group, has more than 30 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer and has extensive experience working on private infrastructure investment, construction and engineering projects, with particular expertise in transport, water, power and other social infrastructure projects.

Among the significant matters he has been involved in domestically, he headed up Transurban’s legal team in all phases of the Melbourne CityLink $1.7 billion project and Exhibition Street extension tollway, and advised equity participants in consortia bidding for the $1.5 billion Western Sydney Orbital, the $600 million Cross City Tunnel and the Lane Cove Tunnel in Sydney.

In his role as international managing partner, Curtis is responsible for Freehills’ international offices and he heads up a team that works extensively in Asia, the Middle East, UK, USA and Chile, acting for sponsors, lenders equity investors, major works contractors and government.
