Norton Rose Australia has launched a formal association with Indonesian firm Susandarini & Partners in Jakarta.

Norton Rose made the announcement this week regarding its new alliance which commenced on 1 February 2011.

The new association continues the existing Indonesian presence of Norton Rose, which previously held an association with local firm Brigitta Rahayoe & Partners.

Susandarini & Partners is a corporate and commercial practice with approximately 15 lawyers.

As a result of the new alliance, a number of Norton Rose partners will be based in Jakarta on secondment to Susandarini & Partners, which will be relocating to new premises in Jakarta in April 2011.

"Indonesia has one of the strongest economies in the region. It is rich in natural resources and has a commitment to building infrastructure including roads, railways and ports. It is therefore an increasingly important market for our international business," said Norton Rose Group deputy chief executive Don Boyd.

Other Australian firms which have established a presence in Indonesia include Freehills, Blake Dawson, which has an association with Jakarta-based firm Oentoeng Suria & Partners and Allens Arthur Robinson, which is associated with Widyawan & Partners.
